Wednesday Night Loves in a quartier revisited

L’Auberge Espagnol was one of the first movies if not the first movie I watched when I moved to Paris. One specific scene of that movie has stayed with me forever, as Xavier moves through his new neighborhood and says that after 10, 20, 1000 times, the newness will have faded and it will be home.

Since my boyfriend is out this week and I’m staying with my parents in the apartment they’ve rented for the week, I feel like I never left my old quartier but I’m also looking at it with a different pair of eyes: noticing things I never noticed before, walking down unvisited streets and finding that while I thought I knew my neighborhood, there was a whole other side to it that was left undiscovered.

- walking to and from work – the fact that I can do this without a winter coat is incredible

- looking into boutique windows that I used to oogle at when I lived in the 3rd before, and thinking, “oooh ! I can afford this now!"

- my new shoes, the perfect transition from the winter boot (though they could use a little breaking into)

- the classic decoration in the apartment: I love it all – the mouldings, the window treatment, the sconces
